Ronald Reagan: Church and state

“We establish no religion in this country. We command no worship. We mandate no belief, nor will we ever. Church and state are and must remain separate.”

—Ronald Reagan, 40th US President.

In your opinion, what does it mean for church and state to remain separate?

Also, I’m wondering how you might reconcile the quote you shared with a couple other Reagan quotes, such as:
    * “Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.”
    * “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”

Thank you for sharing your insights.

    1. I was unaware of these Reagan quotes but I don’t see any contradiction!

Thanks for the reply, Linus. I think you’re right about the quotes not being contradictory.

Since you initiated the post, I am curious of what you think it means for church and state to remain separate.
